About this typeface

Classification Sans Serif » Geometric
Foundry Neufville Digital
Designer Paul Renner

First presented by the Bauer Type Foundry in 1928, Futura is commonly considered the major typeface development to come out of the Constructivist orientation of the Bauhaus movement in Germany.

Paul Renner (type designer, painter, author and teacher) sketched the original drawings and based them loosely on the simple forms of circle, triangle and square. The design office at Bauer assisted him in turning these geometric forms into a sturdy, functioning type family, and over time, Renner made changes to make the Futura fonts even more legible. Its long ascenders and descenders benefit from generous line spacing. The range of weights and styles make it a versatile family.

Futura is timelessly modern; in 1928 it was striking, tasteful, radical - and today it continues to be a popular typographic choice to express strength, elegance, and conceptual clarity.

Undoubtedly, Futura by Neufville Digital is the most genuine and powerful Futura font on the market, hence digitized by the very originals from the Bauersche Giesserei and optimized for use on digital devices by Visualogik specialists.

Neufville Digital is a joint venture of Bauer Types of Barcelona, Spain and Visualogik of The Netherlands. Bauer Types having it's roots in the famous Bauersche Giesserei of Francfort, Germany and Visualogik building upon a historical experience in font technology and being one of the premier developers of digital typefaces in Europe.

Futura by Neufville Digital has many typographical enhancements and extras:

+ the historical character designs of Paul Renner that were abandoned in the letterpress have been reintroduced.

+ the original smallcaps and old style figures that Renner designed for some weights have been incorporated throughout the font program.

+ Neufville's design staff, headed by Marie-Therese Koreman, developed completely new character sets for greek and cyrillic, true to the Renner ideas and the early considerations of the Bauersche Giesserei, with a special eye for contemporary digital demands.

+ many unknown alternate characters from the archives have been implemented and many stylistic variants have been added to offer designers and branding professionals an overwhelming choice of creative possibilities.

Futura ranks within the most prominent typeface developments of the twentieth century. Faithful to it's origins, Futura ND continues to serve it's leading position in the digital era as a true descendant of the Bauer heritage.
