DIN 1451 is a realist sans-serif typeface that is widely used for signage and more recently headlines and flyers. Originally known as Neuzeit-Grotesk, the font became knows as DIN, when it was adopted by the German Standards Committee in 1970 as the official typeface for signage and traffic systems.
It's utilitarian, unfussy appearance reflects the dominant design philosophy of the 1920s: "Form is function." Although today, it's relative familiarity means it is more commonly used to evoke a sense confidence and even cheer.
