Created by Oswald Bruce Cooper in 1921, Cooper Black is an ultra heavy, serif typeface whose predecessor (Cooper Old Style) was popular during the 1920s and 1930s. Cooper Black set the trend for black typefaces, particularly in the advertising industry, and has prompted many imitations. Today it plays a part in several well-known brands including EasyJet and Oxfam, but is probably best remembered for it's appearance on the sleeve of The Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds'.
