About Aldo Novarese

Aldo Novarese was born in 1920 in Pontetura Monferrato, Italy. Novarese attended the Scuola Arteri Stampatori in Turin, where he learned woodcut, copper engraving and lithography. Later he attended the Scuola Tipografica Guiseppe Vigliandi Paravia in Turin and subsequently joined the Nebiolo type foundry in Turin as a draftsman. In 1938 he was awarded a gold medal in the national Ludi Juveniles art competition. From 1948 to 1958 he taught graphic drawing at the Scuola Vigliandi Paravia in Turin. From 1952 onwards he was art director at the Nebiolo type foundry, and in 1956 was is awarded a gold medal by the Milan trade fair and exhibitions center. In 1975 he left the Nebiolo type foundry and started working as a freelance type designer, and in 1979 was awarded the Compasso d’Oro. Aldo Novarese died in 1995 in Turin.
