Fontdeck was conceived by Jon Tan and Richard Rutter in 2009. Both Jon and Richard are hugely passionate type enthusiasts and renowned web designers, so the opportunity to combine a love of fonts and the web was not to be missed.

“We wanted to create a service that would bring high quality fonts to a wide audience. It needed to be a level playing field, where independent typeface designers could compete with large foundries, and set prices themselves.

It also had to be easy to use yet provide the flexibility professional designers require. It needed to be supported with the best infrastructure to host and serve fonts.”

By combining the design experience of Clearleft and the engineering knowhow of OmniTI, Fontdeck was born.
